The Leslie Branch of the Capital Area District Libraries (CADL) has been serving the Leslie area for 25 years. The Leslie Branch offers several resources that enrich members’ everyday lives. This includes a collection of books, movies, and music as well as free events that range from early literacy storytimes to adult book discussions. Additionally, it offers a Library of Things collection where members can check out mobile hotspots, Chromebooks, iPads, and more. The Leslie Library also offers public computers, WiFi, charging cables, and printing and faxing services. Plus, it serves as a gathering place, both inside the library and outside on its patio. The mission of CADL is to empower our diverse communities to learn, imagine and connect. The Leslie Branch is one of 13 libraries of CADL. Leslie was incorporated as a village in 1869 and as a city nearly 100 years later in 1968. Although Leslie is within easy distance of Michigan’s biggest cities, we are proud to be a small, friendly community with a real Main Street lined with unique restaurants and shops. The Leslie City Council meets at City Hall on the third Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm, except when noted on their website.

A family-owned and locally operated business, Fogg Oil offers same-day and emergency services.

Friends of the Leslie Library is a nonprofit organization whose members serve as advocates and ambassadors. They share the message with fellow citizens that libraries play an important role in the community’s success. The Leslie Friends meet on the 4th Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. One of their projects is the on-going book sale in the corner of the library, available in the Leslie branch during open hours.

Highfields, Inc. began in 1962 as a residential camp for troubled boys in Ingham County. It has grown into a multi-purpose human services organization that gives about 5,000 people per year the resources they need to turn their lives around. The Highfields mission is “to provide opportunities to children, youth and families to become more responsible for their own lives and to strengthen their relationships with others.” Highfields offers 17 programs designed to meet the needs of children and families in our community. Jackson Farms Feed and Seed is a supplier of livestock feed and crop seed products. They also carry dog supplies, bird seed, vet wrap, mouse traps, buckets, bird feeders, rabbit food,    chicken feeders, chicken waterer, mealworms, poultry blocks, and much more. In addition, chicks and chick starter products will be available this spring.

The Leslie Historical Society was founded in 1970. Their mission is to promote awareness and an appreciation for the history of our community and to preserve and display our heritage for  future generations.

The Leslie First Baptist Church was started in 1839. Now known as The Leslie First Baptist Church – The Church of Encouragement, their mission is to be a church committed to encouraging people to draw closer to God and each other. Their worship services are Sunday mornings at 10 a.m. Other ministries include the Garage Youth Ministry, vacation Bible School, and more.

The Leslie Public Schools Foundation was founded in 1992 as a non-profit, 501(c)(3) charitable corporation. Under the direction of a volunteer Board of Trustees, the Foundation works in coordination with, but is separate from, Leslie Public Schools. The Board is committed to assisting Leslie Public Schools in generating and allocating resources for programs and projects. In recent years, The Leslie Public Schools Foundation has assisted or coordinated in funding projects and scholarships totaling approximately $1,000,000.

At Leslie Public Schools, over 1300 students enjoy a rich and vibrant learning environment. The school system offers students the best of all possibilities: small enough for folks to know each other, but large enough to offer a wide variety of educational, fine arts, athletic, after school, and social opportunities. Leslie schools are safe, clean, and academically sound. Their highly qualified, caring staff continues to pursue opportunities that impact student learning. Leslie parents are involved in the education of their children and are welcome in the schools.

According to their website, Leslie Township was originally a part of the township of Aurelius. On December 30, 1837, it was organized as a separate township. The first Leslie Township meeting was held at the home of Henry Fiske on the first Monday in April of 1838. Currently, the Leslie Township Board of Trustees holds its regular meetings on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. except in July, when it will be the third Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

Misty Lane Farm is a small family owned and operated farm featuring Michigan lamb and Katahdin sheep, in Bunkerhill Township. Lambs are raised on pasture, as the weather allows, and finished with locally-grown (conventional) corn, high-protein feed pellets, and either lush grass/legume mix pastures or Michigan-grown grass/alfalfa hay, depending on the season. Misty Lane Farm has an online shop where you can purchase various cuts of lamb and Misty Lane also offers animal sales of live sheep for commercial breeding.
